Jesus Christ's suffering, death, and - most importantly - resurrection are very critical for any practicing Christian to know. Jesus' rising from the dead is a core fact on which our prayers, and our faith, hope, and charity are based. Without Christ's resurrection there is no salvation from sin, and we would be forver lost; without Jesus' rising from the dead, there is no hope of us going to heaven when we die.
1 Corinthians 15 talks about Christ's resurrection. 1 Corinthians 15 vividly describes what the resurrection involved and presents to us the hope in salvation through Christ that is available to all of us.
At times, various non-believers come forth claiming they can "prove" that Christ was not resurrected. The efforts of these disbelievers are in vain. Simply refuting that Jesus Christ rose from the dead does not make it so.
I present now indisputable evidence that Jesus Christ rose from the dead before ascending to the right hand of God the Father:
Passages in the Old Testament prophesize about Jesus Christ's resurrection. Read Genesis Chapter 3, Verse 15, and then read 1 John Chapter 3, Verse 8. A dead man would not be able to "destroy the works of the devil" or "bruise his head." Review Psalm Chapter 16, Verses 8-11, and then the Acts of the Apostles (Acts), Chapter 2, Verses 24-28. David states that the Holy One shall not "see corruption." Moses says in
Deuteronomy 18:15-19 that God will raise up a Prophet from among us and that we are to obey His commands or face judgment from God. Compare
Isaiah 53:10 with
John 1:29. Here is a reference to a man who suffered death but came back to see new life. These and many other Biblical passages in the Old Testament foretell of the Son of Man, the Son of God, God made flesh to come, die for our sins, and be reborn (resurrected) to take his place at His Father's side.
Christ prophesied that He would be tortured, die, and be resurrected three days after his death. See
Matthew 3:40; Mark 8:31and John 2:19, 20. Certainly Jesus the Christ would be aware of His fate, of His impending suffering, death, and resurrection. How many people have we met who would be brave enough to tell us that after they die they will come up out of the grave? Only a person who raised the dead would be able to deliver on this promise. Jesus did raise the dead on three occasions as recorded in the Gospels.
After Jesus was resurrected, angels proclaimed the event.See Matthew 28:1-8;
Mark 16:1-8; and Luke 24:1-9. Women went to the grave of Jesus on the third day after His death and found His body missing. When they were there, angels told them that Jesus had been resurrected from the dead. Each of these three Gospel passages vary slightly in the details, but the more important core message remains the same. Carefully reviewing these Gospel passages will illuminate the reason for the slight variances between them.
A number of people saw Christ risen from the dead after being placed in the grave. 1 Corinthians 15:5-8 tells of over five hundred people witnessing Christ alive after His glorious resurrection. The disciples did not accept Christ's rising from the dead after the first account. Until they saw Him with their own eyes, they did not believe He arose from the dead. In the 40 days after His rising from the dead, Jesus showed Himself to individuals and groups of people. After this Christ appeared and witnessed to Saul of Tarsus, converting him to Paul, and He appeared to John the apostle.
He is alive today. Christ Jesus lives today, and will not ever die again. Christ remains, ever present, and is the same today as during his physical time on Earth. The Christ who did wonderful things for people back then is today still able to do things things for us. No matter what problem you face, Christ can help you in your struggles as He witnesses to you of the crosses we all bear and works though and with God the Father. Can you hear His call - it is just a prayer away!
